The protection of human health and the environment
Recent decades have seen an extensive range of chemical legislation introduced across the EU and the UK. The principal aims of these pieces of legislation are to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment with respect to the use of chemicals.
The range of legislation now in force is substantial. For example, within the EU, there are now more than 50 separate pieces of chemicals legislation in place. Businesses involved in chemical supply chains need to be aware of which legislation they hold obligations to, what these obligations are and how they must be satisfied. This is crucial for ensuring businesses are acting in compliance and upholding legal standards to help ensure their activities do not cause undue harm to human health or the environment.
