I gained research experience from academic institutes (NRI, QUB) and governmental organisations (DARD, NI) in; natural resources management; technical bioassay assessments; technical sampling; designing, implementing and interpreting monitoring of pesticide residues; developing novel methods of residue extraction and analysis; evaluation and interpretation of studies on physico-chemical properties; total organic carbon assessments in microbial biomass; fate and transport behaviour of chemicals in soil and water under controlled environmental and field conditions in context with the relevant guidelines (SETAC/OECD) and EC directives.

I have comprehensive working knowledge of EU regulatory procedures for the quantitative assessment of the risks posed by new and existing chemical substances to the environment. My expertise includes substantial use of regulatory models for the evaluation of risk of chemicals to several environmental compartments as required for dossier preparation during registration of chemicals in the UK and other Member States. I developed new models for the; kinetic assessments of pesticides and their metabolites; risk assessment of pesticides following their application in domestic garden use; upgrading MACRO 5.0 as required by new PSD guidelines. Recently, I started working on the Mutual Recognition in other member states of pesticides, authorised to use in the UK.

I trained professional modellers for the use and through understanding of the evaluation models such as the EUSES 2.0.

Meeting and liaison with regulatory authorities and commercial clients forms an integral part of my job. I am involved with the Integrated Runoff Management Project for Farms (IRMPF) investigating mitigation of pesticide contamination. Brief information can be accessed at www.ncl.ac.uk/iq and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBIcpxEKXoE.

I am an active member of SETAC, SCI and AAS and recipient of scholarships/awards by the Department for the International Development (UK), the Department of the Environment Northern Ireland (UK), the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), the Society of Chemical Industry (UK) and the Corporation of Scientific and Technical research (Europe). I presented my work at scientific meetings organised by the DARD, SETAC, ICEST (AAS) and Pesticides symposium XIII.
